SUMMARY:Team Based Learning: Optimising Active and Collaborative Learning
DESCRIPTION:This short workshop aims to introduce participants to Team-Based Learning (TBL) by experiencing it as a student would. TBL is a student-centred ‘flipped’ learning and teaching strategy designed to engage students through a process of preparation\, assessment and application of knowledge. It shifts the focus of classroom time from conveying course concepts by the teacher to the application of course concepts by student learning teams. Participants will learn the principles of TBL through active and collaborative learning and will learn about and be able to question the expert facilitator on his experiences of using TBL over the last 9 years.

DESCRIPTION:This study looked at a particular types of group activity ‘Peer-led group learning’ based on ‘small groups of students meeting regularly with a peer – one who has additional expertise in the subject matter – to work on problems collaboratively’. The study looked at the use of Slack to support this activity. This presentation will discuss:\nhow the project came about\,\ndefining the scope\nselecting the right methods\nand the journal towards final publication.
