SUMMARY:VIT&L Event: Celebration and launch of the CUA DigitalEd Case Study Collection Publication
DESCRIPTION:This special VITAL event will celebrate the launch of the DigitalEd Case Study Collection. The DigitalEd Case Study publication will showcase exemplars of online and blended course design outputs produced in GMIT\, IT Sligo and LYIT including; reflections from the digital champion experience; Universal Design for Learning (UDL) in the digital world; the DigitalEd transformation journey and how it has supported the development of a culture of digital transformation across the CUA.\nEstablished in January 2020\, the CUA Digital Champion network supports colleagues to develop their digital teaching and learning skills and engagement with a suite of DigitalEd.ie resources and professional development pathways. The impact of the champion mentoring network is wide ranging\, from a local and institutional perspective\, and it is provided an opportunity for digital transformation\, as we move forward in becoming a new Technological University in the West and North-West of Ireland. This event will take place on the GMIT Dublin Road Campus and live streamed on the day.

SUMMARY:The Impact of Unconscious Bias - a Workshop for Students
DESCRIPTION:The workshop would be very beneficial for apprentices and students who go on work placement or indeed all student groups as it is such an important topic for them to be aware of.   It is open to any student groups across the CUA/St. Angela’s College. The workshop will also be recorded should any lecturers wish to distribute it or use it again for their class groups. \n  \nThis workshop has been organised with the support of CELT and is being funded by the National Forum for VIT&L (valuing Ireland’s teaching and learning) week. \n\n  \nThe impact of unconscious bias? \nUnconscious biases impact all of us and form part of how we think. Most people are not fully aware of how bias may affect how they perceive and think about other people. Bias will affect perception\, attitudes and behaviour towards others and some of this behaviour can be quite subtle. The aim of this workshop will be to allow students to understand how their brain works in terms of how they make decisions and think about other people. They will understand how bias occurs in all of us and recognise the impact of any associated behaviours. They will be able to name and recognise common biases and hopefully get some a-ha moments in recognising their own unconscious biases or unseen barriers to inclusive cultures and how we interact with others. \nThis workshop will explore what inclusivity look like and how to mitigate some of the behaviours and blockers to being inclusive\, and to manage the impact of unconscious biases. \nPress Book Now for further information and registration.
